Computer start up takes 5 minutes

Hi,first the problem with the cd rom,now that I have downloaded the new driver,it still doensnt detect the cd rom and when I turn on the computer,it takes 5 minutes for the desktop to show and then nothing,I cant get it to respond at all.Help....
 
Couple of things...

Do you mean that the boot process takes five minutes or actually loading your desktop?

How old is this installation of windows?

What version of windows?

Where did you get your CD-ROM drivers from?
 
Whats your full system specs? Have you tried to get into safe mode? if you can go to run/msconfig/startup tab, and see if theres alot of junk on the list if so take off everthing you don't want to open on startup. If the driver is causing it, you may need to do a system restore point before you installed the driver unless it will let you roll it back. This is under device manager and see if it shows the drive "working properly".
