Computer starting as if on safe mode

I restarted my computer the other day and when it came back on again, it was in safe mode. No biggie, I thought, this sometimes happens and it usually goes off again when I restart and press F8.

However, it refuses to go away. It looks as if it's on safe mode-the icons are over sized and the color isn't right-but there there isn't a safe mode icon in every corner of the screen. It continues to start like this even when I press F8 and select Normal mode. I can get on the internet OK and everything seems to run fine.

Can anyone help me out? It feels as if I've done everything. Any help would be much appreciated.

Yeah it sounds like the resoulutions defaulted back to low for some reason, to change it; right click the desktop and choose>properties>settings>screen resolution, play around with the setting, but typically it would be around 1024*768 min

Thanks for the help, but it doesn't appear to have worked.

I reset the resolutions but when I turn it back on it doesn't seem to acknowledge the changes.

If the resolution worked when you set it but didn't work at startup then you may have a virus on your system which is setting the screen res to 800,600 at startup, or it may just be a simpler problem
