Latley my computer will start up and it will beep once then start up normally, is that normal? I also noticed if i leave my computer on for like 45-60 minutes without shutting off my moniter and leaving it to the screen saver it will enter this weird mode that i cant move my mouse to open it again. the only way to open it, is by turning it off and then turning it on???????
also when i start up my computer is says on a black screen something about pressing Ctrl + S to enter configuration setup???

I think 1 beep is normal yeah its the computer saying the post passed and didnt find any errors. Your computer will give off a certain number or set of beeps depending on what hardware problems it does or doesnt find. Sounds like after that 45-60 minutes you have your computer setup to sleep or hibernate or whatever. Check your computer power saving options for that, its probably that you have your hard drive set to turn off after that time. These power saving modes dont always work like they should. Pressing those keys at startup is for entering the bios setup which is were you can change a bunch of system settings. Often times its the Del key or one of the F# keys. Its normal for any computer to say to press a key or group of keys to enter the bios setup.

Sounds like your computer is running just fine, except for maybe needing to tweak the power saving options.

Like Konsole said, power saving options often cause problems. Just disable them except for monitor. If you want to save power, turn off computer.

Yeah my Laptop beeps twice because my CMOS battery is dead but I dont wnat to take it in and fix it because my laptop is from 1991 and it would cost more than the laptop is worth to fix it

That beep is the motherbaord doing a POST a power on self test. Its where it will check for hardware errors.

A single beep means everything is fine.

Anything else is an error.

yeah but it gives me a detailed list of things that are wrong and the first thing is the CMOS battery then there are some other smaller things

I think Vinnies response was for Acer, and Bengal thought Vinnie was talking to him.

Just set the computer screen saver to come on after 10 minutes and the monitor turn off after 15 or 20. Thats what I do. I don't turn off the hard drive.

I read about this in my motherboards manual. During start-up, the speaker didn't beep at all. Is the speeker plugged into the header right, or is that another way of saying "No Error"?
