I just built a desktop computer and when I push the power button on the front it turns on but that is it. It wont turn back off nothing, it doesnt beep either. The H.D.D led comes on solid, everything looks to be right and is powering up. My brother who lives for computers cant find what is wrong either.....

1. You motherboard's 4pin is not connected in
2. You motherboard's 4pin is not connected in (the 20+ 4 one)
3. GFX faulty
4. RAM faulty.

ok so the 4 pin would be the cpu power right? If so I have the plugged in, and the 24 one plugged in but there are only 20 pins on the male ind of the plug and 24 on the mboard.
Brother looked this over and it looked right to him.

here is the mboard

ohh and I have some pics of the motherboard all plugged in if that would help find the problem.

Then you need an new PSU...

What is the rest of the system?

Does your GFX require an 6pin?

I think that is it.

when you say psu you mean power supply right? well I took this power supply out of my old working computer(higher watt) and put the one the case came with(lower watt) in my old computer.
So I no this power supply is good

ohh and the one I put in it is a antec 430 watt max

well I checked and our 2 other computers in our house are like that so are you sure that is the problem? ohh and I have 3 extra power supplies setting next to me and there all like that.....

yeah you will need a 24 pin for a 24 pin connector.. if your psu only has 20 pin, then it wont work

I agree, if your motherboard needs 24 pins, and you only connect 20 of them, it will not work!

See if there is a seperate 4 pin connector that will fit on to the remaining pins. When you buy a PSU you can "break off" 4 of the pins so that you can fit a 20 pin on to a 20 pin board, so you might have a 4 pin connector from your PSU.

If those power supplies came from Pentium 3's or older AMD's, there going to be like that. Could you post your system specs?

Ok, I looked again and the only power supply that I have that looks like 4 of the pins were broke off it is the one that came with the case for this computer.(brother took the power supply out so he must have broke them off) I tried that power supply in there and now only one fan out put on the mother board works, 2 of them try to move the fan but cant and the other 2 dont move it at all.

I posted a link to everything I have for this computer one the first page.

I am really startting to wonder what is going on, this is my second motherboard for this computer(fist one was doa) and it took 2 1/2 months to get this new one it because it was lost in shipping. I really want this thing to work now..........

A 20pin PSU should work in a 24pin motherboard. I'm not saying it's ideal in terms of stability, but it certainly should work, and the ratings on that old Truepower are still sufficient for your hardware.

Since you've tested another PSU, it's unlikely that that's your problem. I'd check your RAM first.

I have been looking at the manual for your motherboard and I have a couple of questions.

1. Did you put the video card in the Blue PCI 16 slot? If not, then do so.

2. Did you put your ram in the first socket Dimm_A1? If not, then do so.

Also, Asus motherboards are very picky about the ram they use, I see that your ram is not listed on their preferd ram list. So, what you might have to do is go into the Bio's and go to the advanced listing and go the memory configuration and set the latency and timings for your ram manually.

Using the Auto functions for Asus boards causes a lot of problems. It has been my experience that you have to set the ram timings manually most of the time.

Look up the ram you are using and find out what the timings are supposed to be and set them manually.

If you have questions on doing this ask and someone will help you.

yes to 1 and 2, I even tried all the other slots. I cant get in to the bios because nothing even comes up on the screen. I no the graphics card is good, I am starting to think it is the motherboard because now only one fan input works. This is the second motherboard and I had to wait 3 months for this one because they lost it in shipping. So if it ends up being the motherboard then im going to send it back and just get my money back and buy a used one off ebay.
