Computer still running slow even after cleanup

I just finished doing a Malwarebytes scan, a Ccleaner cleanup, a defrag, and a Microsoft Fixit browser cleanup, and while my computer is a little faster, it's still way slower than it should be. Are there any other free software programs I should be using to clean up my computer? Thanks.
 
How long as it been since a fresh install was done on this system? Sometimes you can do all the necessary cleanup but it still won't bring back the speed of the computer. What are your system specs as far as how much ram is installed and what processor you are running? How much free hard drive space do you have? Has the recycle bin been emptied and temporary internet files been deleted? If it's been a few years since a fresh install has been done, it may be time to do it again. How long as it been slow? Did you install anything new or add any new hardware right before it got slow?

When you say a CCleaner cleanup, did it check the Registry for errors? or clear old files? If you didn't do both, do the other one. Also, you may want to upgrade your RAM if you don't have much. And like has already been said, reinstalling the OS will make it a lot faster. I reinstalled mine, and it goes 10 times faster then it did before.
 
The operating system has been reinstalled within the last year. I have 256MB of RAM and the processor is a Celeron 2.4 Ghz. I have 61.3 GB of free hard drive space.

Your going to probably want more RAM. I have 2 gigs for XP. 256 megs is nothing.
 
Celeron processors are slow anyway so between that and only having 256 mb of ram, thats the reason why your system is running so slow.
 
Well seeing that your system is pretty out of date it's no surprise that it runs slowly. Spend $40 and get another gig of ram, it should speed things up a bit.
