Computer Stopped Working

Basically, I accidently lent on my computer power button last night when I was putting it in to sleep mode. However now when I turn the computer on all the fans start working etc (like the loud stage) but nothing else happens. So the fans just keep spinning quite loudly, but the OS doesn't start - at all.

if it helps I am using windows 7, on a custom build gaming pc.

Intel quad core @ 2.66ghz
6gb DDR2 ram
1tb samsung hdd
1gb gtx 260 nvidia graphics card
Asus mobo (can't remember model of the top of my head)

Anyway anyone got any ideas what is wrong with it, so I can tey to fix it.

Turn it off at the mains and wait for a few seconds and then turn it back on again (both at the mains and then the front panel) When you do this do you get any beeps from the motherboard? Does the HDD so signs of activity (LED on front panel usually)?
 
Right,

I did what you said (well I left it off for six hours).

Now, it turns on for 10 seconds or so, then stops and turns off. Then it starts up again with everything working - but doesn't stop - but again nothing actually works.

So you get no beeps? Are any of the front panel LEDs lighting up? Make sure all the components and power cables are plugged in correctly. Try resetting the CMOS and booting up the machine again.
 
Beeps? none? 1?

have you tried turning it on so the fans are noisy then holding the power button down so it goes off. Then turn it back on?

Check your power supply with a tester too if you can get hold of one.

Try taking a look at the ram. I have had problems with ram, How I know the ram doesnt work is the computer will turn on but nothing happens, the screen doesnt even turn on. Maybe some how you burnt up the ram? I dont know its a shot in the dark.

Now that I think of it, my gateway was doing the same thing to me, so I asked about it and was told that the consistancy of the motherboard was below something like 95%, so it would shut about 6 seconds after start up. So if it isnt a Power Supply problem maybe it could be the ram or Mobo. But I also know that a faulty Power Supply can do the same. I am just saying if it isnt the Power Supply try taking a look at what I mentioned above?
