computer stopped working

hey guys, my grandpa's computer mysteriously decided to not work today. THe first time i turned it on the screen displayed black with little white lines running down it and the mouse was in the middle of the screen but it didn't move. So i turned off the computer and turned it on again. This time the motherboard make 10second long beeps over and over again. I don't know the brand and model number of the mb i'll try to figure that out but does anyone have any idea what's wrong? :confused:
 
ok, well i guess i posted this in the wrong place then, sorry mods, but i didn't exactly know what was wrong. Are you positive it's ram? I just found out the model number but it's kinda chinese...But if it's really ram then i'm happy cause ram is cheaper than an entire motherboard.
 
I would have to say that :cool: 9 times out of 10 if when you first boot up it starts beeping its the ram..
Did you try reseating the ram? I would try to reseat the ram and also reseat the CPU.

Ya that was going to be my next thought to change the slot. it might just be the ram or slot was to dusty or it might have just died...well it doesn't matter it works now! :D
 
Ya, i know what you meen. I'm afriad to tuch my grandfathers pc too... i mean it's a 33mhz with256mb of space and runs windows 3.1, ya i try not to mess with it to much...i forget how much ram it has.... :)
