Computer stopped working

Hey, I was fixing up my friends computer since it wasn't turning on... I fixed that but then I thort I would move the dial up PCI card to another slot so enough air would be getting into the graffics card that went fine until i tried to put the screw back into the little slot thing that ties down all the PCI and PCI-E cards so they don't move around... and I accidently droped a screw down on the Motherboard (the computer was going at the time) and that seamed to be fine until i picked it off the motherboard when i done that the monitor went black and you could smell somthing frying so I quickly pulled the plug... So we left it for a couple minutes and now the computer boots up everything works on the motherboard(Fans and whatnot) but the CPU fan never seems to slow down(it usallly goes very fast then slows so it isn't so loud), the green light on the DVD drive keeps on blinking and the monitor stays off like its not getting a signal from the Video card but I know it should work since I tried it in my computer... So im thinking I half fried the motherboard? So would i be correct in thinking this?

Any help will be appreciated :)

You learned the hard way, do not work on your system while it is running. Always turn it off and unplug it.

Smells like something burning = need a new motherboard.
