When ever I try to such down my computer, it takes forever. When I click start and then click Turn Off Computer , it takes about a minute for the little window (Standby Turn Off Restart) to come up. When it finally comes up and I click Turn Off, it will take 4+ minutes to turn off. It is a new XP AMD 64 Processor. Anyone know what the problem is?
The Computer is pretty new and runs on a dial-up internet connection.

my guess would be that you have a slew of programs running in the background, and in the system tray, which is just killing your system preformance, and causing almost everything to sllllllooooowwwww down :P........

heres where i would start....usually when you buy a new computer it comes with alot of software that the manufacturer installs, most of which you dont use....the problem is, is that they set this stuff to run at startup, or in the background.....so, i would go into add/ remove programs and go through the list and just uninstall anything you dont use, you will find that like 1/4 of the crap on your hard drive you dont even use, or didnt even know that it came with your computer....

after doing that, and it still shuts down slow.........when you are "idle" on the desktop, hit ctrl-alt-del and look at your tasks running if there are any that you dont recognize, or that are eating up a shit load of resources for no reason, you may have a virus.....if these dont help let us know

I did a Spybot search and BackWeb Lite was one of the results. I deleted it and when I tried to shut the computer down, I got all these pop-ups about BackWeb. I restored it and everything was better again.
