Computer Turns Off By Itself - Need Help

your immediate problem is fixed yes, but there are other pressing issues as well.

the current shut-off temperature for intel processors is 75 degrees celcius. a p4's heat generation was more then the C2D's but that does not mean they can withstand any temperature. 80-90C will kill any processor, unless the readings are wrong im surprised your computer is running.

IDK, check to make sure the IDE cables are connected, also if it was overheating you check with a program called Speedfan.

*You* came looking for help, I tried to give it. Running hot or not, 80-90 is quite warm, even for a P4.

i thought it was overheating too. but it looks like people rather buy hardware first without eliminating teh cheap-n-ez stuff first...

even my oldie Celeron D starts to run unstable when temps reaches 70c, couldn't imagine how it will run at those temps,...

my p4@3ghz under stock cooler only reaches around 60*C on around a 70% load
