I don't know why, but sometimes my computer shuts off by itself, while I was doing my projects. I run mcafee virus scan and found nothing  , could it be a hardware problem (hope not)? virus? please I need help. I run hijeckthis and there seems to be nothing bad at all.

my computer specs if needed:
Biostar SLi Nforce4
AMD x2 4400+
WD raptor 74gb
2gb of corsair XMS ddr 500
asus radeon 1600pro 512 mb
450 watt rosewell power supply

my hijackthis logfile, just in case:
I go to this site to fix problems for Hijackthis: http://www.hijackthis.de/ I don't know if it is accurate or not though.

It could be all kinds of hardware. Power supply, motherboard etc. I fixed one recently that did the same thing and it was the motherboard.

Make sure that your AC power outlet is working. Install an UPS if neccassary.
Make sure all the fans are working.

another tip - see if you can get your hands on a Temperature Monitoring program. It will tell you the temperature of you cpu. If its running at extremely high temperatures and you're not running any programs then it might be a heat issue. Your computer would normally shut it self down if operating at high temps.

I'll try to see if i can get one for you....

wow thanks for the software.

here is a screen shot of my current temps and it don't look good. Any ideas to help?

Mmm, i wouldnt be so sure. Its defo not at 127c, trust me.

I was thinking the issue was heat, but if you unscrable those readings form speedfan, id say your CPU is at 40c, and your mobo 36c.

I started thinking about the temperatures. Maybe the sensors are screwed up and they force the computer to turn off, even though there's no actual need to, in order to avoid burning components.

It's your motherboard.
Don't jump to conlusions.

Run Motherboard Monitor 5 and get some temps. If it displays at 32C it means the sensors aren't reading right. Run a pass with Memtest86 and see if it gives you any errors on your ram. More than likely however it's your PSU that's causing the random shut downs of your system. If you can read of the model, brand, and amps on the +12v line please post them.
