Computer turns on by itself

Hi,

I've recently been having problems with my computer. Just yesterday I switched some hard drives around. Once everything was put back together, the computer powered itself on and 2-5 seconds later powered itself off, repeating itself every 10 seconds or so. I just switched off the power supply and went to bed, thought I'd deal with it in the morning. I then taped all the extra cable ends with masking tape, thinking that it could possibly be a short. That fixed it for the time being. Now whenever I move the case slightly, it turns on again.

This problem is getting old and I'd like to fix it. If someone wants me to post my computer's specifications, I can.

EDIT: Is this in the right section of the forums?

So is it still looping or turning on and working? It's pretty clear you have a short somewhere, but I'm curious if the computer boots or attempts to boot (IE anything on the screen).

Regardless, the first place I'd look is the motherboard. Confirm stand-off's are all set correctly and the motherboard isn't touching the case at any point. Even remove the motherobard and try it outside the case if you need to.

Well, I just took everything out and rewired. I made sure no components were touching the case or any other metal parts (i.e. screws). Once all of that was done I tried booting it up again, and it worked fine. I think the problem lies within the power putton. Whenever I touch the bezel where the power button is, the computer starts, then immediately shuts off. If I directly press the button, it works fine. Any vibrations I make near the case will make it turn on (or shut off). Would i just need to replace the button or redo the wiring or something? I have an Antec 902: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129058&Tpk=antec 902

Thanks for your interest :)

Very well could be a bad button. I've replaced a couple before. Pretty easy to replace, just may be difficult to find one that'd fit perfectly in the slot and all.

As for the case, it looks fine if you want to get such a massive case. I normally get Cooler Master Centurion cases. Just avoid their Elite series if you do go with CM. They are horribly cheap and flimsy and the Centurion is typically only about $10 more.
