Hi I have a Dell dimension 5000 (Dimension 5000 P4 processor 520 with HT technology 2.80GHz, 800fsb, 1MB cache, 512MB DDR400 Dual Channel Memory (2x256), 80 GB Serial ATA Hard Drive) which is turning itself on and off.
This problem orignated when it was within warrenty so after a number of tech support calls it went back to dell where they replaced the PSU, the memory and the filler unit. It still didn't work. Went back to dell again and they replaced the motherboard. This seemed to solve the problem but now a couple of months later (and out of warrenty) it is doing it again. It started off just turning itself on once in a while. Now it is turning on and off repeatedly, sometimes just on for a few seconds, sometimes booting into windows. It stayed on for a couple of hours yesterday and everything was working fine, then when I turned it off it immediately turned back on again and off again etc til I unplugged it. It is on a Belkin surge protector, but the problem is there when on a different socket too. It has been but is not now connected to the internet and it has up-to-date virus protection (Sophos)
Any ideas.... Should I try a new motherboard? don't want to have to be buying new motherboards every couple of months though......
Please help!
