please help. i have a request to build a pc for under 500. under 400 would be the absolute best. HDMI support required

os, keyboard/mouse, and dvd drive will not be needed

the specs must play diablo 3 and use vista. currently no plans on OC

i have a coolermaster extreme power 500W with a combined 32A on the 12V line if needed

so far the case looks good:

Thermaltake M9 VI1000BWS Black SECC Steel ATX Mid Tower

79.99 AR but can get it for 69.99 @ microcenter

i'm quite weary of that case as the pc will be put on the ground

what's your input and thanks

Alright I will post what I believe should do the trick for that amount of money.

CPU: E7300
Graphics card: nvidia 9600GT
HDD: W.D. 640G (sounds like a lot but times change)
Motherboard:G-B EP31-DS3L

I live in Australia so I can't really give you a price but it should be around $450 I believe.

thanks. that may also be good.

how about this:

AMD Phenom 9600 Agena Quad-Core 2.3GHz CPU (Fan/Heatsink INCLUDED)+ Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-US2H AM2+ w/HDMI
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.182234&CMP=AFC-C8Junction
$169.98

CORSAIR CMPSU-550VX 550W ATX12V V2.2
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139004&CMP=AFC-C8Junction
$75

HITACHI 0A38016 1TB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Hard Drive - OEM
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822145233&CMP=AFC-C8Junction
$69.99 AR AC

4GB DDR2 PC6400 TWINX CORSAIR RAM
http://www.frys.com/product/5611731
$14.99 AR

total thus far = 330
with the 80 dollar case = 410 ??? - maybe the case is too much?

i'm thinking of getting the ASUS EAH3450/DI/256M Radeon HD 3450 256MB 64-bit GDDR2 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Low Profile Video Card to crossfire with the onboard:

19.99 AR

any thoughts?

Yeh it's pretty good so far.

I would still go for the 9600GT mainly because you may want to play something better in the future and this will help.
Also I thought you didn't need a PSU?
Actually I would still go for the CPU I put down as well.

well, the power supply is mine and i'd like to keep it as a backup in case something happens.

about the cpu.... i'm thinking quad is more future proof

on the other hand i don't even know if diablo 3 will support quad core. if it doesn't then the faster dual core would be better. i don't even know the required specs to play the game. all i know is the game supports ati much better

The quad core is too powerful for the 3850 anyway, and the 9600GT with the E7300 go hand in hand.
This is just my opinion, as I like Intel and Nvidia more anyway so I might be a bit biased towards them.

I know the PS is a bit overboard but you will be able to upgrade in the future without having to buy a new one and still keep yours as a backup like you had said. The motherboard will allow you to upgrade to the phenom II in the future also. If you have a little time to wait for the CPU to be in stock that is.

$468.94+11.18 shipping = 480.12
$30 in MIR which you can count on or not and still be under budget.

dang, the recommended ram by breadman has sold out. anything good and cheap or should i just get this:

4GB DDR2 PC6400 TWINX CORSAIR RAM
http://www.frys.com/product/5611731
$14.99 AR

also, microcenter has an OCZ STEALTHXTREAM 500W for 25$. would that make a suitable replacement?

If you don't mind the Mail In Rebate then yeah that memory should do fine for that price. The 500w im assuming you mean the power supply should work but in the future when you upgrade, depending on what you get you will have to get a new power supply also. Spending the extra money now will save you inthe long run, but if you dont have the money there is not much you can do. Trust me I understand I had to go with a 500W knowing in the future I'll have to get a new one again.

thanks breadman. finally put together and is running smooth. vista ultimate 64 score all5.9 except for cpu which is 5.5. pretty good for a sub 50 dollar cpu
