Computer underperforming (especially for games)

Hey guys, this is my first time here. I'll get right into it.

I have the following computer:
Gigabyte 81915G motherboard
Intel P4 3.4GHz
1GB DDR RAM
ATI Radeon X1300 512MB video card
80GB IDE HDD
350W power supply
and the rest I suppose isn't so important. I basically have a DVD reader/CDRW combo and a floppy disk drive.

Basically, this computer isn't running anywhere near what I'd expect it to. I'm playing Oblivion on 640x480 resolution with lowest quality settings. I have the drawing distance to max, but there's very little difference between that and the default settings. I have HDR off and same with AA and AF. I simply can't get the game to run smoothly.

I've downloaded the latest drivers for all my hardware, but it just isn't working the way it should. I ran a demo of 3DMark06 and never got above 3fps for any of the tests (and I believe they were all on 1280x1024 with AA and AF off).

Does anybody know what could be set up incorrectly?

It might just be slow. Oblivion is a very demanding game, and it could just be having a hard time playing it. What other games do you play and what type of settings do you run those on?

i think the problem here is your graphics card... bear in mind that the x1300 chip isn't very powerful and oblivion is an extremely demanding game. also, if you do upgrade your card you'll need a much better power supply

Yes the x1300 chip is nothing to run Oblivion on, so you'll want to replace that. I mean the game easily bring down 7900GT's on it's knees..

i have got a nvidea 6800gt and that plays it on high but i would make sure all background programs are turned off expecially anti-virus unplug your internet first if there is no improvment its time to dig deep and buy a new graphics card if you do that you will need to get a more powerfull psu 500w plus
