My moms computer that was giving to her since her other one crashed is sooooo slow. I just sat here probably waiting a good 5 mins for the internet to pop up.

Is the Hijack this thing what I should do and post the results up here for you guys to figure out whats causing it to be this slow?

Or is it something else?

What is the specs I usually find when windows is sluggish like that then it is a RAM problem or you need a fresh install of windows.

Microsoft XP Home edition Version 2002 Service pack 2, Intel (R) Pentium (R) 4 CPU 1.80GHz, 1.79GHz, 384MB of ram.

Far as internet, her computer, my laptop and sis laptop all off the internet.

One problem I see is not enough ram. Upgrade to at least 1gb. Go ahead and post the malwarebytes log and hijackthis log.

Yep that is the first thing that caught my eye to. A upgrade in RAM is going to make a world of difference on an old machine like that.

I hate defrag, always screwed up my pc for some reason :P

EWC88, what kind of RAM do you have? DDR or DDR2?

oh its certainly has gotta be DDR since there is such low amount of ram being used by default and not even the faster Pentium 4's.

EWC88 tell us the exact computer (if a brand name computer like Dell, HP, Compaq etc.) so that we can see the entire specs of your system and then see what upgrade potential there is. A decent processor nowadays is atleast double that Pentium 4 and the suggested minimum amount of ram is 5 times more then that 384. Like others have said your system has little to no future and your better off to just building a new computer. We might be able to getting it running ok though with a look at the computers full specs.

Even for a casual user, after about 5 years its time to seriously consider buildin or buying a new computer because this is my opinion on the matter...

These take into consideration that a computer was top of the line when bought.
0-1 year old computer: Top of the line
1-3 year old computer: Higher end still plenty capable of current tasks
3-5 year old computer: Lower mid grade system that can run most common tasks ok
5+ year old computer: Low end system that will struggle on any current tasks

knowing that u have a lack of RAM monitor the amount of programs u have running and try to keep it at a minimum, this is if your not interesting in buying a new computer. go to the processes tab in task manager and manage your memory usage.

my sister has an old Compaq Presario desktop with only 125mb of RAM and i know its hard to believe but she browses the internet fine(even thought that pretty much all she can do). Actually the entire computer is pretty fast thinking of how much RAM it has. It absolutely has to be running one program at a time no exceptions.

but management is the key
