recently my laptop has been acting up

every time it boots, a popup warning comes up that says:

"Instruction at 0x100001c0 referenced at memory 0x1000c10. The memory could not be written."

whatever i do to the window, whether i exit it or press OK or Cancel, it comes up again and again and again

the desktop appears like its windows 98 and the wireless internet is not even recognized

whenever i try to play audio or video a warning comes up that says the memory is broken in some way

programs work, i can access documents and everything its just the internet and my itunes that wont work

any help or input would be greatly appreciated

my computer is a visionbook laptop, made by MGD computers in Canada

it has 512 mb of ram and an 80 gb hardrive

i use firefox but i used to use IE and i still have it installed as its the default browser for some stuff like email

another thing that might help is that the error messeges are all svchost.exe ones, which ive searched for and it seems they cause a lot of problems for others

To add to that it sounds like its booting into safe mode which is why you get the old window design and also why you dont get internet access.

no, not that i can think of, the messege would always come up on startup but now it comes up infinitely

maybe it is ram...maybe thats why it cant display the regular xp taskbar..but that wouldn't explain the wireless not working

i dont have internet, but could i download that and upload it onto the laptop from my usb drive? or is it an online thing?

I doubt its a memory issue. Usually that message refers to a bad plug-in installed for IE. Since the message appears on bootup, go into the msconfig utility and see if there is anything out of the ordinary in the startup tab for startup programs. Uncheck anything you don't need running at bootup and try again.

i checked off some stuff on reboot and that didn't really work

now the screen is extremely magnifed and i can't change that by going to properties and changing the resolution

i tried the startup thing but it didn't work

now everything is magnified

i think im going to giveup and take it to a computer store

boot into safe mode, and recheck the stuff that you unchecked, then save changes and log back into regular and it shouldve fixed the problem that you created, im guessing you dissabled your graphics driver, when i first got my computer i was a noob and uninstalled that thing, my computer was so ugly everything was huge and blurry!

i took it into a computer store and the guy determined it was a problem with the hardrive, an unfixable problem that requires me to buy a new hardrive and the old stuff cant be back up? is this plausable?

You need to get a second opinoin on that. A bad hard drive will not cause the symptoms you described. Hopefully you didn't take it to the Geek Squad. They are feeding you a bunch of bull.
