Computer upgrade.

Upgrading computer a bit.

New mobo and CPU
- Asus M4785TD-V EVO DDR3
- AMD Phenom2 X2 550 3.1Ghz, AM3

Ram sticks:
- Corsair 4GB (2x2GB) Value Select DDR3 1333MHz

Current specs:

My PSU is a 500w fractal design. If possible, I will try to unlock the cores, however, I am fully aware it might not be possible at all.

sad thing is the e8400 is faster than that amd chip...unless you unlock the cores i wouldnt change a thing :/

Oh I see, I'm still new to this whole thing.
What would be a slightly more sensible solution to this?

The gpu in it serves me just perfectly. Like, there's not a single complaint over what it can or can't do.

what is your total budget? are you only upgrading the cpu, mobo, and ram?

300 usd. And I'd really like to upgrade mobo and ram, I'm currently using a mobo from a old prebuilt computer.

what are you current specs? In full please $300 is plenty.

CPU: inter E8400, lga 775 socket (I think...), 3.00gz dual core. Stock cooler, no overclocking.
GPU: Powercolor Ati Radeon HD 5770. 1gb DDR5 ram there.
Ram: No name brand, 2gb dual channel DDR2.
Motherboard: Prebuilt Acer mobo. Is a bit different from most mobos I've worked with.
PSU: Fractal Design 500w psu, not modular, 80+ bronze. Fan is at the bottom.
HDD: Two different western digital SATA hdds. Not slow, not fast. Works for me.

The case is a NXZT panzerbox, and it works well in my opinion. Cable management is a bit awful, but I bought the PSU this year, so maybe next year I'll buy a modular PSU so the case looks better inside.

The core i3 is still a dual core but it has hyperthreading, so it's going to be better than your E8400 by a long shot i think. The i3 also has an integrated GPU that is half-decent. can actually play games on lowest settings at low resolution.
