Computer Upgrades

Hello All
I've been wanting to upgrade my computer for a while now. In a week, I'll have $200 to spend on upgrades. Right now, I have the motherboard (cheap one, what i really want to upgrade), a gig of ddr2 ram, 667 mhz, a 3.33 ghz pentium d, an 80 gig hard drive, and and a 350 watt power supply (also a cheap one). I'll have more money to spend this summer, but I want to get a few upgrades done now. What motherboard, and other parts, would you suggest for me?

Its pretty hard to upgrade when your parts have fallen a few years behind, I would suggest waiting till you can buy all the parts in bulk. If anything buy a new power supply and hard drive. Get the motherboard, RAM and CPU all at the same time.

What are you looking to do with these upgrades anyways? Do you game at all or are you just surfing the web, checking emails, playing solitaire etc..?

The computer does everything. It games a little, and does all my school work. Why would I wait to upgrade the motherboard, cpu, and ram at the same time? If the cpu still works, it can hold off. And I plan on keeping the ram, and just adding more of the same.

Alright so your idea of an upgrade is more of a refurbish.

I would suggest you go to crucial.com and buy maybe a little more RAM

Maybe dump the processor and get a AMD

definitely a new power pack 1000watt min

 1k watt for that..?!

Wayy overkill.

500W would be more than plenty.

Otherwise I agree with the RAM idea.

Do you have 2x RAM sticks right now, or just one?

No way would 1kw be needed on a system with those specs... Is that supposed to be a joke?

he doesnt need a vid card, hes not a hardcore gamer... the intergraded is good enough

and... wtf... 1k psu? crazy? mabey? a 500 would be PERFECT, mabey a 2.2 ghz CPU, a PC3500G mobo and 2 GB ram would be a perfect lil setup,

also... ide go with buying the ram first, boost up spead a lil, and easy to install, in the summer youll have more time to take stuff apart and add more "harder" stuff (yea my grammer sucks at 3 am) also, hard drive...hmm... try getting a cheap $60 at like bestbuy, probly 250 gb will be good for your schoolwork and "ect" *cough*porn*cough* but also keep the 80gb in there nd make the 250 the slave, if your comp is as old as i think it is, you might want to get an IDE instead of a SATA HDD, unless it is a SATA compatable MOBO (most newer ones are) then by all meen stay away from IDE lol

no but with the price of power packs if you get them from the right place they are cheap. Also more power is better in most cases because of he wants to have peripherals attached to the machine he will need more power for those alone.

he said that he has a 3.33ghz cpu. a 2.2 would be a downgrade. keep the cpu, up the ram and hd, and put in a fan for heat control

Go do some more research on PSUs, 1k watts is ridiculously excessive.
