Computer Very Slow

I have been away for 4 weeks and i just turned on my computer. Everything was fine. I had a heap of updates so i loaded them. I left the computer on overnight but i do that most nights anyway.

I moved a font to a usb stick as i needed it on another computer, then the slowness started. In task manager it said the font folder was not responding. So i closed the window and had to press end task now.

I tried restarting but it takes about 5 minutes or more to startup and log into the computer. And all applications are so slow, and even opening a folder is slow. The cpu in task manager looks normal, and there isnt any processes hogging anything.Once IE is open the net works fast.(not related maybe).Outlook express takes roughly 10 minutes to open.

Is my CPU on its way, i am doing a virus and antispyware scan now. Once the programs are open everything works fast but not as fast as usual, it is just in opening applications that is mainly slow.

Any ideas and how to fix........sorry about the long post but i though i should include everything since i been back.

did you try taskmanager and if anything is taking up all the cpu usage? try going to Start > run and type msconfig. a screen should pop up. then click on the startup tab and click disable all button then click ok and restart. that might help

cheers, i think it was the real player updater,it didnt install properly so it needed reinstallation.

But my outlook express is very slow opening, it takes about 1-2 minutes, and no it doesnt have many emails in it.

i used the registry tool in ccleaner but no fix......it seems when i open an application the cpu sits on 100% for about 10 seconds then takes forever to open applications......photoshop does not even open.

No virus or spyware found.......start up is slow and when loggin in to user it takes forever to load desktop.....also when minimising windows it goes slow and the window isnt instant it actually gradually disappears downwards

OMG i am an idiot...........realised what it was.....

1. watched an application open
2. realised wow thats alot of fonts
3. when i moved the font from 1st post it must have reset my selected font set folder to "all"
4. problem solved but startup is still a little slower than normal otherwise everything else is fine.
