Computer w/o a case

So I built a computer, and I bought used cpu+motherboard+ram in a bundle on ebay. The seller gave me 10 days to check if everything works after the products arrive, and my problem is that my case might arrive after these 10 days go by. So, I want to power on my pc without a case, but I'm kind of worried because I don't want to brake anything. I know that its doable because I have already done it before, however I was using an old p4 pc and now I'm going to do it with an i7 computer so there's a bit more pressure put on me :D. My question is can you guys give me some tips on how to setup everything safely, so I won't damage my system?

Set it up like normal and then just short the 2 power switch leads on the motherboard.

Without a case I would put it on some cardboard or something like that, then just keep it clean and put it together like normal.

To turn it on just take a magnetic screwdriver and connect the 2 pins that would of been connected to you power button.

Well thanks for the tips, and my motherboard has a power switch on it so I won't have to worry about turning it on with a screwdriver or anything like that :D
