Computer will not boot!

I have a Gateway 815GM, running Windows XP/SP3. Computer was working just fine until I attempted to add a second sata HDD. Now when I turn the computer on the fans run, the cd drive works, but no HDD is found. The power on light on front of the machine is now orange instead of green. The power off button only works if I hold it down for a short time, Unless I then remove the power plug it starts up again when i relaese the power button.

The green led on the motherboard is on. Any help to get this working would be greatly appreciated.:(

A bad hard drive or a bad power cable will cause that problem. Hook the drive up to another system and try.

Thanks for the reply. I tried your suggestion. In another system. That was a Dell C521.
The drive from the gateway(WD2000 Caviar) went as far as to display the black boot choice screen(start in safe mode ect. or boot normal) would not go any further, just kept coming back to the same black screen. I went to setup and checked to see if the drive was listed properly. It did show the WD2000 as sata 0 drive.

I do not know if that means the drive is ok or not. Or if perhaps the Dell bios is incompatible with that drive. But, at least i did not get nothing like I have in the Gateway, Any other ideas?

You can't boot to this drive that you put into the new machine as it has all different drivers installed. Go into the bios on the new machine and make sure its own hard drive is set to boot and not yours.
