Just last night i guess our power shut off in our house and now my home desktop won't turn on.... When the power went out the computer was in hibernate mode, but not shut off. When i try and turn it on all that happens are the lights in the tower come on and it sounds like the fan is running at the highest speed possible(nothing displayed on the monitor)... and there's nothing wrong with anything else that was plugged in and turned on at the time of the power outage(monitor, external hd, router, etc..)

The computer is a gateway running xp.. if that helps at all

And yes...i already checked all the connections and they're all good, and it's on a surge protector

please help me

I'd start by swapping monitors and parts with a working computer and pin pointing which part or parts are not working.

Haha, surge protector ... you probably have one of those extension cables advertised as a surge protector I reckon? Those aren't what they say they are... if you want a real one, do some research.

Lol, yeah, perhaps the GPU got fried? Or are you using an onboard card? o.O
