Computer won't boot

My computer dosen't boot up when my GPU is in. It would get to the screen with the windows logo with the loading bar underneath but then it would restart. after it restarted it says that it suffered a power failure. this only happens when my GPU is installed...
I've gotten a new PSU which is 750w
My GPU is a GeForce 9600gt that requres at least 400w

Can anyone help? :confused:
 
Well, it's obviously most likely your GPU or your PSU malfunctioning. The only thing you can do is test them independently to narrow it down. Easiest way would be to test out the GPU in another computer. If it works no problem then it would seem that your PSU is putting out the power that it should be.
 
the GPU works in another computer and the PSU is brand new. the computer works when the GPU is not installed but that means i have to use intergrated graphics

I don't know if this helps but the computer works in safe mode with the GPU in so i guess that would mean the the GPU and PSU may have nothing to do with it.
Also just before it restarts there's a flicker of blue..... if that means anything.

If your computer is working in safe mode than the problem should be in your operation system, have you tried reinstalling it?

Just because something is new doesn't mean that it isn't the problem. Computer parts have a high failure/malfunction rate straight out of the box.

It's pretty clear that the problem is your PSU. For whatever reason, it's not able to power your computer and your GPU simultaneously. If your PSU has more than one rail, you should try redistributing the power consumptions among the rails. If that's not the problem then it would seem that your PSU just isn't outputting the required amount of power.
 
It use to be a Compaq Presario SR1925AN but I've started modifiy it.
I've added A GeForce 9800GT, Corsair XMS2 2x2GB DDR2 Ram, an extra 150GB HDD and a 750w PSU
But it works in safe mode and how can I reinstall with the disk?

I was think did you buy it from a local store with a 30 day exchange policy? If so exchange it for a name brand one like a Corsair 650tx.

But, do you have another GPU you can test first? Have you used either of these parts before to see them work?
 
the GPU works on another computer just not my one....
and i tried the PSU on another computer that has a Radeon 4350 (Which needs a leasts 300w) and it worked fine
the PSU has a 3 yr replacement warrenty
the other guy said it may be my OS, and i think he maybe right. i think my computer got a virus or something because when it logons on it comes up with messages like, 'Explore encountered a problem and needs to close' even through i didn't even open explorer because i just log on.

Well, i reinstalled the driver and now it works perfectly fine
that means that it wasn't the PSU so i brought a new one for no reason, expect for the fact that i got a new one :P
if i keep updating the driver would that avoid this from happening again?

but my OS does have some problems. If i reinstall it will i lose my other programs, save files, etc? and how can i reinstall it if i don't have the disk for it?

when windows itself comes up it is called explorer. (thats the best way i can explain that one)

during a bootup menu u press f10 or f11 cant remember just look during them lol or just spam one till something happens i think each of them does a different thing for me i normally get it wrong. :(
