Hi,

My computer won't boot up today. It says ntoskrnl.exe in c:\Windows\system32 is missing...So I pulled the hard drive out and put it in a SATA drive case and used a USB cable to connect to another computer as external hard drive. It shows up as E:\, but when I tried to click on My Document folder, that computer says "Hard drive is not formatted. Do you want to format it?" I clicked No. I checked the connection and reboot the computer and the samething happened. I don't know what to do next. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

Clifton

Can you boot into safe mode? If not, do you have a Windows XP (or whatever OS you're running) CD? Boot from the CD and select the Repair Installation option.

try booting your computer and tapping f8 then "use last known configuration"!!!

also you could bootfrom your windows disk and press "r " for recovery console and run a chkdsk /r to see if that fixes it

if not try boot to recovery console again and type bootcfg /rebuild which should rebuld the boot.ini file

When it asks to add an installation, select Yes. For load identifier Just type in something like Windows XP The identifier is only the text that appears on the multiboot menu.

For load options enter /fastdetect
reboot the pc and hopefully that will fix it
