Computer won't boot!

Here's the deal. I have an HP Pavilion Desktop a6357c, and it came with Windows Vista Home Premium. I wanted to remove Vista and install XP so I could get some extra speed. To do this I used an XP SP2 OS disc that i got with previous HP laptop. When I was installing it, I deleted the entire drive on the computer, reformatted it, and installed XP. Up to this point, everything was fine. The install finished and I rebooted the system. Now it doesn't boot. The computer powers up, but doesn't even attempt to load XP. It only shows a black screen.

Is that a product recovery disk? Because if it is,it is not going to work correct in your other computer/laptop because it is originally made for that HP laptop you got it with including all the drivers FOR that HP laptop's hardware.

If it's normal XP disk then it should work.Just be sure that you put the devices in the BIOS in the right boot order:

1. CD/DVD-ROM disk
2. HDD
3. The rest...

Save BIOS changes to CMOS and then boot from the XP disk.In the partitions section, delete ALL the partitions. After that you will have only "UNPARTITIONED SPACE".So select that "UNPARTITIONED SPACE" and install XP on it using the second option called "FORMAT THIS PARTITION USING THE NTFS FILE SYSTEM".
Do NOT choose the QUICK format!

If you have already done that this way then it can be that your MBR gets corrupted.Do you maybe get white blinking cursor at the top left corner?
If yes,you can try repairing your MBR.Boot to XP disk and use 2 following commands to fix it:

FIXBOOT

and

FIXMBR

Cheers!
