Computer wont boot

Okay last night I was on my pc and doing normal things nothing out of the ordinary turned off my computer went to sleep and when i went to turn it on the next morning it wouldnt boot it loaded up to the first load screen (black with the text) and had this on it....

cpu: of 29 patch ID: 00217

which I have never noticed, it wont let me boot into safe mode of my xp cd :( dunno what this could be? any ideas?
 
That would be a totally failed cpu. The strongest indication there points at a hardware fault. Generally you would either hear a constant beeping or see a "cpu failure" message come up as soon as the first screen appears. With a cpu now "doa" you won't boot with anything to get to anything. The system is down!
 
Oh so shes dead? Ooookay dam haha well looks like Im gona have to find some cash and buy my new imac sooner than expected!

If you were getting through the first post tests and having problems booting with a cd, booting in safe mode, or booting with a floppy the idea of a goofed up bios or weak lithium battery seeing the loss of information stored in the nv ram would be something to consider. But an immediate error seen right away on the first screen doesn't look good. That looks like an HP type hardware fail code there.
