Computer wont detect Camera

Hi,

Connected my Camera (Nikon D3100) to my Laptop tonight to try and upload some photos. However when I connect it I get no external Hard drive appearing on My Computer and the USB Detect sound is making 3 beats as opposed to 2 like it usually does when it detects a device. How can I fix this and get it to recognize my Camera?

It may need drivers installed. If you have an sd card reader on your comp, try using that but turn 'autoplay' on beforehand.
 
Did you try turning the camera on why it is plugged in? but like Russ stated you may need to locate and install the drivers.
