Computer won't start. Help wanted!

Ok, so here's the problem. (refer to the end of this post for details on components used)

When i press the power switch on my computer the cpu fan and display adapter fan spin for no more than a second and then shut down. Powerlight on the frontpanel remains on, no fans continue to spin, not even the PSU fan and nothing else happens. Speaker gives no beeps. What makes the problem even more puzzling, is that i get the same result with 2 different CPUs (both Athlon socket A) and 2 different motherboards, one with an integrated display adapter. Clearing CMOS does no good.

When i try starting the machine all i have installed is one memory module, the CPU and the CPU fan. All the components are properly and correctly connected, reconnected and then reconnected some more.

Help and advice would indeed be appreciated as i'm not too far from tossing the damned machine out of the window at an unwary pedestrian.

And here are the components

PSU: Antec 430w Earthwatts, tested and functional (this is NOT the prob).
MBs: Asus A7N8X-e, Chaintech don't know exact model.
CPUs: AMD Athlon XP 3000+, AMD Athlon XP 2500+
Display adaptor: Sapphire Radeon X1600 agp. Unknow integrated device on Chaintech.
Memory: 2 Apacer 512mb, 1 Buffalo 1gb

Someone PLEASE help me so i don't kill some poor bastard walking down the street with a few hundred euros worth of falling electronics...

possible shorted mobo? sounds unlikely to me if it's happening to multiple PC's at once

i'm not going against ur word...this is just for calrification....wut did you use to test the PSU's to determine they arent the problem.

also....stab int he dark....is the socket that the surge protector is plugging into fully functional....or the surge protector itself

just come options

I took the PSU to a computerstore that tested it with an Antec tester. Everything was green. Also, it worked with the 2500+ prosessor (was able to get to bios on some MB).

I had the same problem. Shorting. Take the mobo out and set it somewhere. Plug everything back in. if it works this time then either you didnt put the thingys that hold the mobo so it doesnt touch the case... what do you call those again?
