computer wont start

ok, so, my computer wont even get to the boot stage in which i was planning on installing windows xp....just shuts off. everything is sufficient, fills requirements, blah blah blah. any ideas?
 
How old is the board there? If it's been in use for a year or more there are a few main items to look over. A weak battery on the board, inspection of the board for anything like discoloration or bulged leaking capacitors, and the possible corrupted bios programming if the eprom hasn't gone toast.
