Hi guys, new in here.

I have a problem my computer wont start.

I woke up one morning and it was stuck so I tried to reboot, everything started working, cd-roms, fans, graphics card, harddrive, bur the monitor remained black.
Tried to reboot a couple of times with the same result.
I then disconnected the herddrive to see if it would attempt to boot, but it still remained black.
I connected the harddrive again and then I could boot, it recommended me to boot in safe mode and so I did.
I ran an antivirus check and it found like twelve of them, they quarantined, cleaned or deleted so I rebooted in normal mode and everything was fine for a couple of days.
Now when I try to boot the same thing happen, the monitor remains black while everything is "on".
Have to say that the computer doesnt respond to caps lock and num lock and there is no way something is wrong with the monitor.

PLease HELP.

I think you just got lucky that one time it booted. I doubt those viruses had anything to do with it. There's really no single answer I can give you just yet... You must diagnose it first. Get rid of any additional cards in the machine. Swap out the GPU of you have another(say a plain PCI one, or onboard) Use a single stick of RAM if you have two, or some other RAM if possible. Use another power supply...

Sounds like the graphics card or the memory, try taking one of your sticks of memory out, if that doeasnt work try the other one by itself, failing that, try another graphics card, borrow one!!!

This is wierd.
Got home and tried to start the computer but nothing, so I took out the graphics card and the RAM (stupidly together) and put them back on and now it works, lets see for how logn...
How can this be possible?
I havnt moved the computer or anything so they would be out of place.

Dude, I had a computer that wouldn't come on...but if you set there turning it on and off, eventually it WOULD power up :P They can't always be explained(at least not easily) I know the motherboard was on it's way out, but I still wouldn't call yours a bad mobo just yet... It could even be as simple as a loose connection.

I'm also having a problem similar to this one....

When ever I want to start the computer it will more then likely turn everything inside the tower on (disk drive, fans, etc) but will give be no response else where (no power to IR mouse, keyboard, nor monitor).

* The "on" light will also NOT turn on.*

and every once in a million tries, it will turn on regularly like nothing's happened. Including the on light!

From what I understand, some say it's the MB, other say it's the power supply...what do you guys think?

power supply

the power supply is damage, voltage may less than 5v and 12 volt or the ampere drop. tips on how to diagnose ATX power supply without connecting to the mother. you need just wire any stranded or solit for jumpering the terminal. jumper setting: short ground to color coding green then plug to the outlet the power supply will turn on. you can notice through the fan or if you have multmeter tester you can chech the output voltage if it is accurate or not.

There are a ton of potabilities for why this happens. Often it's as easy as something coming lose from the mother board and all your have to do is check to make sure they are one tight by taking them out then back in, however other times it is as bad as something dieing like a power supply or motherboard.
