i was addin memory into my computer and when i reached up to grab it i grabbed the wrong one on accident, and put it into my computer... when i turned my computer on the moniter would not be turned on by the computer. i tried taking the memory out and putting it back in in about every way possible and i also made sure the moniter wasnt broken by hooking it up to other computers. what do you guys think is probably wrong with my computer, the video card the motherboard what... i want to get my computer up and running again so i need to know what i should buy or what to do to fix it... thanks

You need to post a little more detail on the system and memory being installed. Are you trying to say that nothing was seen on the screen after you installed the wrong memory module? Did you hear any audio beeping after the wrong memory was put in?

ya i checked all the little things like power and all of the connections... it did not make a beeping noise or any noise for that matter... the computer is an intel it was made by a friend of ours about 5 years ago... any idea what is wrong with it

Placing a then damaged or dead memory module in may have been the one thing needed to see the end of the board itself. After 5 years time it would be hard to at anything else except the possible power supply failure. Do you see anything like drive lights come on for a few seconds or hear any fans start running when you press the power button?

when the tower is open and i turn on the power the main lights come on , the same ones that come on when the computer normally comes on, and the fan over the proccesor and the one by the power connection turn on... the main fan however does not turn on ie the one that helps control the internal temperature. the disk drives are all getting power and the lights are all working in unison with the power turning on... my computer normally makes this noise before the monitor turns on and it is still making that noise but the monitor wont come on

Five years of use can see a good number of problems like the lithium battery on the board going. That is what keeps the time and date as well as other information stored. When the battery goes especially after 5yrs. which is the maximum life everything comes to a holt. If you have the board's manual or know the make and model that could help since different batteries other then the now more standard CR2032 were used by different makes.

did you buy the right memory 5 years ago i think it would of been sdram and not ddr

PC133 would have been mostly over PC100. But that can't be ruled out either. That would depend on what the board called for. It could just as easily be PC1600 Sdram.

ya the memory has always worked just fine... the computer itself has always been goo it was just starting to freeze up when i used itune and some other programs lately so i was going to add more memory

Hopefully only the battery quit. That would be no surprise to see due to the age of the system. That would be one of the first things to figure went at that time. It never hurts to have one or more extras onhand anyways. You would simply take the battery with you and write down the number seen on it as well in order to match up the replacement. Youu can get those at any place where watches and calculators are sold like most department stores.

Once you drop a new battery in the first thing seen would be the time and date page when you go to power the system up. After you get that set you can browse through the rest of the bios to see what options are there as well as making any needed changes to one or more settings. The cost of a battery is actually the cheap way out if the system runs normally afterwards.
