Do I have a defect PSU unit?

I connected the ATX for both MB and the CPU. It should at least turn on, or have my monitor at least just go blank instead of showing (Check Signal Cable).

Any suggestions on how to trouble shoot????

Disconnect everything except 24pin and 4 pin

Have you checked the power switch on the power supply is on ?

Have you checked you power button case connection ?

Yes, this isn't my first time building so I know everything is connected...

so I have disconnected everything. what do you recommend i do to test out my PSU first?

Just to be sure because you posted that everything was connected, but now you completely disconnected your PSU; you did a quick short between the two pins on the motherboard, where the front panel power switch was plugged into correct?

Yes,, ok now I saw a quick small flame come out of the side... what the hell does this mean?

Flames? out the side of the PSU? If you're getting flames out of the side of your PSU, STOP, don't continue. Your PSU is shot.

If you have done what I asked about in my previous post then with the PSU disconnected from everything; short out pins 15 & 16 on the 24-pin connector with a small piece of wire. Holding the clip that holds the connector onto the motherboard on the right 15&16 will be the 3rd and 4th one down on the right side. The 2 black wires surrounding the green wire on that side are COM so either should work. Be ready to unlug if something goes wrong.

First of all, there is no green light, everything is black for some reason. Reading the manual, I figured which one is green, did the paper clip test, but nothing happens. Nothing runs.

Do you have a multi-meter? You could test the voltage coming off the 24 pin, but it may be for nothing considering you saw some flames. Never heard of flames from a PSU.
