computer wont turn on

good evening all,
my comp is not turning on at all, while i was using comp it just shut off, i get no lights, no fans, nothing. Monitor comes up as out of sync...everything else hooked up to power cord is working. had similar problem replaced mobo everything was fine for a while...im thinking powersupply...any help would be greatly appreciated.
 
Try connecting everything to a different surge protector first and see if that fixes the problem. If that doesn't work then it's most likely your PSU that died. What brand PSU do you have?
 
i dont know i will have to check should that information be placed right on the psu or do i have to open up the computer to check

It should most likely be on the side of the PSU. You'll have to remove the side from your case to read it.
 
if i get a new psu are there any specs i need to know or does it just have to be the same voltage...also upon further "investigation" i found that the processor fan and the power supply fan do about half a spin then they both die and the light on the psu goes off...any help would be greatly apprecitated

upon further research i believe i have a faulty power switch i was wondering how i can check this out and if this is the case can i just switch the leads with that of the reset button and the reset button will start up the comp

Possible, but reasonably unlikely.
