Tonight after I got back from my youth group my computer was turned off. I tryed to turn it back on but the power button doesn't work anymore. There is a light coming from my network card but other than that no signs of power. Sometimes when It was on the fan for the cpu would slow down and up. So what do you guys think the problem is?
My guess is power supply but I dont want to waste money on something that fix my computer.

Was it?

Did you make sure the power switch was set to "ON" on your powerbox somewhere at the rear? I've flipped this to "OFF" many times by accident...

I didn't touch any switches in the back, and about the other thing how would I know if i fried the mobo or the cpu?

Well for starters.. what IS the mobo and cpu (and everything else)?

ya it sounds more like a power supply problem i had the same thing happen to me 2 years ago.

I bought a new 400w power supply installed it nothing still
does that mean its probably the motherboard I pretty sure its not the chip because the motherboard had some fail safe turn off thing

Well if the motherboard failed then the fail-safe would have failed meaning the chip could have fried :)

Alright I getting something now when I turn off power supply and then back on the the cpu fan spin a little and a green led light lights up

what does this mean?

That means that the mobo should be functional. (and i doubt that either your mobo or the cpu is dead).

Ive seen this problem a bunch of times ... what usually worked for me was to unplug all the devices with respect to power and then plug in just the minimum (in your case just the ATX24 cable i.e., the one connected to the mobo). The point is to take the system to the bare minimum and work from there :)

Okay I unplugged all the power cables except for the atx24 cable and the one for the fan on my heatsink its still doing the fan a light thing and then turns off

Same Sort of Problem

:( Hey guys, I'm having the same problem. I just bought a new mobo and processor and I installed them and got my computer up and running, then I shut it down to install my second harddrive and when I went to turn it back on I got nothing. I thought it might be my power supply so I bought a new one and still nothing, I flip the swithces and unplugg everything but nothing except a dim little flash of the power light when I turn the powerbar on and first push the power button. After that first time I get nothing until the power is cut off to the computer again. My processor is a P4 1.87 Ghz and my mobo is a Gigabyte 8ID533
Socket 478 Motherboard
For Intel Pentium 4 with Audio

Any help would be great because I have a lot of money tied into this thing.

Thanks

your motherboard might of died. when the power is on check and see if there is a little red light on the motherboard.if not i don't no soz

And you're certain the PSU is fully functional? :) That would be the easiest thing to check

Got nothing litterally or figuratively

I pretty certain The light that powers up on the motherboard is green which mean it has standby power but not turned on
