Computer Won't Turn On :(

Sorry, this is my first post here and I have a grave problem...

my computer won't power up. I have a dell desktop that's about 4 years old now and everything is hooked up correctly and the front LED light turns on but not the HDD Light above it.

Nothing is turning on inside the case, it is completely silent. Which leads me to believe it is the power source. Anyone who's had this issue, can you help me?

I hate for this to be a first post bombshell but this has all my work on it and i lack the money to go get it looked at.

again, nothing will turn on at all. If it's another problem other than the power source i'd be surprised because LAST NIGHT it was working beautifully.

Thanks guys!

I would say check your power supply I had a Emachines I know crap but it was my first comp and my power supply went up and nothing would turn on It just happened one day.

i think that maybe there might not be any power to hard drive because if the power light comes on then there must be something happening. is the fan working inside the PSU? if it is maybe you should open it up and check everything is plugged in properly and plugged in where it should be

That does not matter. If there was power to everything except the hard drive, the computer would still boot.

If the LED is on, the PSU is working (well at least the motherboard rail is)

Are you absolutely positive that no fans at all are on? Because if the LED turns on, the PSU should be working, and if the PSU is working, its fan should be on.

Are there any other LEDs lit anywhere else? Specifically on the back of the PSU?

QUESTIONS 101
Reset your BIOS see if the machine will post. If not it leads me to believe it is also a PSU problem, try swapping out the current one for a different one and see if it will post that way.

all the lights and such seems to turn on right?
the cable?
do you have an extra cable that you can switch out that connects from the hdd to the motherboard and other drive it connects to.
