Computer wont turn on

I was sitting in my kitchen and i saw a large flash come from the computer room. When i went to go check it out my computer was off. When i went to go turn it back on it wouldnt. . . I think it may be the power supply or maybe the mobo just fried altogether idk?
 
some appliance may have shorted out the electricity supply in your house. what large power consuming devices do you have running at the time? also - i would turn the electricity off, and check the supply and then check the fuse on the plug on the computer.

As in flash of light? Cuz if something turned OFF (like say, the monitor), there wouldnt be an indirectly-visible flash of light (or were you in sight of the machine) from the computer. Was the flash from say, a lamp?

I think it is your psu (power supply) have you got any other pcs

Could be overheating, fried mobo, loose cable, or a whole bunch of other things.


Also try the computer in a different room (i.e., different fuse/breaker)
 
If you have a crt not lcd on the system it may well have been a short inside that pulled a sudden surge tripping the fuse or breaker for the wall outlet. The flash would have been from the monitor itself since that is the only that is able to give off enough light.

Perhaps but (assuming no LOS), for you to be able to see this flash, there would have to permenant dmg to the screen which would be very apparent. Of course this wouldnt be an issue if there was LOS.
 
It would also depend on the time of day or nght this happened. If the flash was from an electrical source the smell of ozone would have been prevalent. At night fall a passing auto can also seem like a bright flash right when the breaker was tripped. In daylight flected sun light and at the sudden flash seen from headlights. Any burnt smell would point at a possible short happening inside the supply or case.

You sure manage to come up with some pretty obscure scenarios here however for both of those cases, there would have to be LOS ... from the description it appears that there wasnt any LOS .. of course it would help if buddy would reply back :P
 
We'll probably have to wait until the system is running again if the power there is still good? If you cook a breaker box instead of a gaming box you're not going to want to be "online" but rather offline or.... zzzzzzzzzap! :eek: !
