Computer woot boot...again

Ok about 3 weeks ago I woke up one morning and my computer would get to the black windows xp screen then reboot constantly. I tried logging in with last settings that worked and nothing, I tried logging into safe mode and it still kept rebooting. I reinstalled windows and everything except the sound worked great for about a week. That next weekend I got fed up with not being able to get my sound right so I reinstalled windows again then everything was finally fixed.

Now last night we had a storm so me and my wife shut our computers off to do somethig else for a few hours till it passed. When it was over we come into the bedroom and turn on our computers and only mine won't boot again but this time a different problem. Now it says windows cannot load because the following file is missing or corrupt...Windows/system32/config/system I tried doing a repair and it fixed some problems but still was doing the same thing, tried another repair and it didn't fix anything because everything apparently was fine but still the same reult, not able to log in.

I think I am going to reinstall windows because this is the last option I can think of but I wonder what is causing all these problems of late. Think it might be my hard drive? Seems logical but it is only a few years old. I have another drive but it use to be my main drive until similar events were happening so I bought a new one and am using the old one for storage. Sorry for this post being so long but I just wanted ta'll to have the information needed to make an informed decision.

1 thing I just thought about...could I put my drive in my wifes computer as slave and copy her file over mine? Do you think that would temporarily fix it?

While it is in yours wifes system you can indeed back up your data there.

Your hard drive is only a couple years old, but you were probably just unlucky. Remember not all last for years and years, especially the less reliable brands (Hitatchi and Maxtor come to mind)
 
No it didn't fry, HD is just going out. It is just over 3 years old so just out of warranty by 3 months..lol It is actually a western digital but it was the cheapest one I could find at the time. Damn emergencies always happen when you don't have any money..lol My old drive that was replaced by this one is actually still good for a storage drive..as long as I don't run programs off of it. So as of now I have reinstalled windows again hoping it will last until payday plus shipping from newegg...so a week to week and a half I'd say. I just hope the HD I'm looking at still has free shipping by then..lol

Oh and all my data/movies/music is all on storage drive. Thanks for the responses though.
