computers is slow to react and flickers!

i just reinstalled windows and now its all weird, like when i drag a window it will flicker and move really slow and when i take the tab and pull it up and down to scroll a web page instead of moving smoothly it will flicker and be jumpiy and i don't know how to fix it

any ideas?
 
What are the specs on of your computer? Memory, Hard Drive, CPU, ect. And what OS are you using?
 
same as before when everything was fine but my specs are

(now dont laugh,lol)
40bg seagate hardrive
512mb corsair mem
nvidea geforce fx5500
windows xp home
 
tried reinstalling your graphics drivers? i know from personal experience that this happens when i use the basic vga driver that comes with windows before i install my grpahics

Yeah, but telling people to get drivers is really the generic advice to most problems.

Yes but not everyone knows this :) What may be common sense to people who have dealt with computers for years and years might not be for the casual user or beginner :)
 
i cant believe this started cos i gave someone good advice. would you prefer that i gave useless advice next time to give everyone else a chance? its pointless and childish, get over it
