Comuter problem, Again...

Hi,
this is very similar to the problem I had at the end of last year. My computer will not POST or show a screen. However, the PSU fan spins, the case fan spins, The HSF spins and the hard drive and dvd rom boot up. I can't source the fault since, I already tried another PSU, other ram, and other video cards.

What should I do?

Sounds like a board problem there. Without an audio alert it wouldn't be the cpu. You have already ruled out memory, supply, and video card. The lack of anything being seen onscreen can only point at two with one already mentioned as not being the problem. If you are not even hearing the single beep generally heard at startup you need a board replaced apparently.

Yeah, well, surprizingly enough, I"ve never actually heard this system beep while starting up. I"ve heard my dad's one do it (i'm posting this on his). The funny thing is I was using it this morning, and I locked it and went to school. came home, and it was turned off. That's where it started..I'll have to ring the company and take the unit back to see what they say.

I think the PSU may have been the root of these troubles, and are you sure you've put the system speaker in schoning16? I've got a DS4 and that beeps very briefly as a sucessful POST.

Yeah I have. Nothing.

have you tried taking the battery out of the board yet? just out of curiousity....

Yeah, did that as well. At this stage I'm going to call the place where I got the board from and Get it replaced under warranty.

If it's still under dealer warranty that would be the best move. The lack of hearing a default may be from either a bad board speaker or not plugging one in. If you have any problems with the replacement board go with another model or choose another make and model. The dealer may have received a bad batch of boards.

my advice is it needs a ATX reset and to do this disconnet everything inc power etc then hold down the power button down for 30secs then press in and out 5 times then connect just the Power and VGA cable ad power on see if it not boots up and any beeps if u get some beeps then turn the machine off and connet the mouse and keyboard boot back up and you should be fine if not does it beep if so how many times i would also check the USB ports if it doesnt turn on for damage ie bent inside try insering a usb device make sure inserts in and out fine its known that bent USB ports can stop a machine from POSTing as it shorts the board out. if they are damage ie if add ons ie front bay ones you can disconnet them from the board and try booting up if its the rears damaged board. let me know how you get on by PMin me.

As I mentioned earlier it was already pointing in that direction by having ruled out the other hardwares to consider. You already ruled out the need to recycle power on the supply by having swapped one for another. As far as usb ports you would have to apply quite a bit of pressure and twisting motion to see those bent up on the inside. That would take trying to put it in reversed with heavy pressure or plugging something in and twisting in a hard motion. Simply plugging something straight won't bend things up.

Oh, I also Tried swapping over processors since I have a Pentium D 940 laying around. No luck there, I've send the board back to were I got it, and They are assessing it as We speak, I"ll let you know what happens, but I"ll severely annoyed if they don't replace it.

A good vendor will generally take them back if it's fast and you don't delay. A friend saw two boards sent out to him that both were bad and finally chose a different model to later ship the two bad ones back. The 3rd one is running strong at this time. But there nothing happened when the first two were tried in the new build at the time.
