Concern about CPU Heat

I noticed that when programs are being installed the cpu temp goes from 31/33c range up to 44/46 range. Also the fan shows 0 speed sometimes and a caution/stop symbol pops up on the hardware monitor. Could this be an indication that the cpu cooler is bad or does the fan actually start and stop at times when it is running. It sits at idle all day and stays around 31/33c. What can I do to tax it so that it will show if it is overheating. MB, cpu, and all board components are new with less than 60 hrs use on them. Any suggestions and help welcomed.
 
Such a dramatic increase in temperature is expected when the proc is under load, but installing something isn't much of a load is it? That's definitely strange, but then again I've never had need to check temps during an install. Might be normal.

The CPU fan should never stop. It might dynamically alter speed in a circumstantial nature, but never should it halt. Try turning off smart fan in the BIOS if you have it, other than that, either the sensor/software is wrong or the fan is truly halting, in which case a new one might be in order (should the fan itself be at fault).

Idle temps look great, if you need a stresser, look no further than Orthos, a multi-chip capable beta of Prime95.

What program are you using to view it???
What is your CPU???
What cooling have you got for the CPU + Case??
Have you made sure the fan is connected properly to the power / motherboard???
 
I got the file to stress it out and will run today. Thought I posted a reply last night about the smart fan in bios but anywas don't remember the setting I put on it but will also check it out. As far as the cpu and case fans, all my specs are listed in signature and all the fans are connected and running so may be getting false readings. The program is the gigabyte mb program easy tune 5.

Stranglehold, it appears u have the same board so do u use that program and how do you have your bios setup, thanks.

I just ran the stress test and it asks for what reading u want but I never saw any posted, not sure how to run this or for how long. But using the easy tune prgm the temp jumped 20-22c in very short time but the test said no errors reported at bottom, just did not show any temps on the log. Ran once for 1.5 mins and another time for 2.5 at max stress and got same temps.

I have CoolnQuiet disabled and the CPU smart fan enabled and mode set to auto. I just use PC Wizard and Sandra Lite to check the temps. But it does list them in the bios too. Mine idles around 27 to 31c and under load it gets around 37 to 39c. Mines overclocked to 3.0 but at stock voltage.
Never ran Orthos on this one, the stability and temps. have been good so I havent had a reason to.

They are some good temps for the OC...... and that is what they should hover around....
 
I,ve hung on to this old 5600. The thing will do 3.1 on stock voltage, 300mhz on stock voltage for a AMDs not bad and has always ran pretty cool. I backed it off 100mhz when I swaped boards out for awhile. But I have 3 120 fans and a after market cooler, that help too.
 
yeah thats actually really nice temps for your processor. im lucky if i get to 3ghz on stock voltage and stay under 50C load and 29C idle.
 
On this one the temp dont really jump at all till I start raising the voltage. I can get to 3.1ghz at stock voltage of 1.3. But to get to 3.2ghz I have to jump the voltage to 1.35. It will do 3.3ghz with 1.375 on a good day but 1.4 is more stable. After 1.35 voltage the temps go up in the upper 40c under load
 
yeah i dunno why my temps raise on stock voltage. they shouldnt really, im beginning to wonder if my board is automatically changing the voltage... i dunno.
 
Thr temps were pretty much the same at stock and at 3.0 and 3.2. The 3.2 is as high as you can go on stock volt and I really haven't ever done oc'ing before so not sure that I know what i'm doing; just tried it for about 6 hrs. Now as for my temps, they are still running up very quickly and pretty much unsure of whats goin on. Yesterday the idle was 30/31 and this morning 36/37, now idle is 32/34.
 
If your room temp. isnt stabe, as in the room your in. It can make your temps fluxuate alittle. Are you using a stock cooler on this, if so a stock cooler does ok untill you start pressing it and has a hard time keeping it cool under load.

The temperature can be effecting by the ambient temperature. Every day I get a new idle temp, mainly because the weather changes so fast out here.

my room temp is usually 78f daily and yes its a stock cooler but reviews on it said was better than a lot of more expensive ones (masscool 5f9001b1h3). Current cpu temp at oc 3.0 is 34 accdg to pc wizard. The idle temps are not a problem but just wondering about 56/58 when running the stress test on it. How high can these take; my old xp1700 runs normally at 57 but can go a lot higher according to amd website. I could not find the high end limit for these 5000 black cpus, any idea or would it be better to change the cooler.
 
Your idle temps arent that bad for a 400mhz increase. Since you have 4 case fans, as long as there blowing in the right direction, I would say the stock cooler is whats running your load temps. up. Most max temps on AM2 X2s are 70c but you dont want to go there.
 
What do u consider a working loading because playing some games today it ran around 42/44 and if games are considered normal load then I would say that it will be ok as is and if it starts to creep up on temps will change out the cooler. Does that seem ok or should I start making changes now, thanks.
 
What kind do u have and which of these is the easiest to install so I don't have to remove from case and side fans will fit when case is closed. Doors fold down on bothe sides.
 
I have the Hyper TX, dont think they sell it anymore, changed to maybe the TX2. But the Zalman and ZEROtherm are the easiest to install.
