Configuring an Inspiron 600m? Wifi?

I just did a clean install on my Dell Inspiron 600m of Windows XP SP2. I then downloaded all available drivers recommended from the Dell website for it by its Service tag #. There are no chipset or system "drivers" or files on that page.

Whats happening is I cannot connect to the internet or even to a LAN network. The ethernet port is dead, regardless of its wifi configuration. After installing the proset driver for wireless it can then see local wifi networks but configuration fails at the end when trying to connect.

Anyone know what I should look for. What settings and what not?

Don't use Wi-Fi Protected Setup, just click on the wireless icon, choose your network, and enter the password. You may also want to remove the Dell wireless software (not the driver), and use the built-in Windows wireless networking utility instead.

Also, upgrade to service pack 3.

Post a screenshot of the device manager please.

Will do. Just the tree, with the plus signs expanded?

I'll update in a few.

This is the driver. http://downloads.dell.com/network/R155386.EXE

Uninstall and try that.

These are all the drivers for that computer. If you have question marks in Device manger you need the driver.

Which wireless icon? The yellow one on the bottom right next to the red notification shield?

From that loading menu, I don't believe there was an option to connect without doing the protected stuff. Let me check it again.

Others have told me to install SP3 but I plan on doing. I just didn't take the first time, so I decided to get the internet going before trying to do it again. But I will install it again.

And again thanks for the help all!

You need to update to SP3 because prior to that, XP didn't support WPA2 wifi security. You may need to turn off security in order to get an internet connection in order to download SP3 if you don't already have it or have another computer to download it.
