Confirm Corrupt file?

I recovered a bunch of word documents from a users computer the other day.

Then I started to look at the file names and I noticed that some file names had "~$" in front of them (example: ~$test.doc). When I try to open it I get an error message stating..see attached.

After doing some research there was some mention that it might be corrupt but not sure

If that text window comes up it means the file is corrupt.

Also the filename there indicates it is the temporary file Word creates when working on a file, so you wouldn't get a working document from it anyway.
