Confused about Intel and AMD! Help!

So a Pentium needs twice the speed to outperform AMD......point proven lol. :P

Tell that to some others around here. They wouldn't believe it.

It's because its not true. A Pentium 4 3.0 can easily outperform the A64 3000+ in multitasking, rendering, and other types of programs. The main area where the A64 soars is in gaming, but even so, you dont need double the speed of a Pentium to see the same results.

The comparison beng made is on dual core not single core model cpus. But let's see a relative comparison made by AMD at http://www.amd.com/us-en/assets/con...sets/AMD_v_Intel_Performance_Comp_Q2-2006.pdf page #2

And the winner is... http://reviews.cnet.com/4520-10442_7-6389077-9.html

Thanks. Right now I'm thinking AMD since gaming is what I do most on my computer. I'll have to see though in a couple months when I'm ready to buy... so much can change in the technologty world in that little time.

First off, you are providing ago old benchmarks. That was before the Pentium D 9xx series was out, which closed the gap. Of course, now that Core 2 Duo is out, there is no point in getting anything else, unless you are building a ultra low budget computer.

I beg to differ. My P4 at 3.5ghz sucked ass at multitasking. Course it didnt have HT, but still, it wasnt as good as my pervious Athlon OCed at 2ghz from stock 1.6ghz.

Here ends it. Pentium 4 vs. Athlon:

Pentium 4 sucks the Athlons you know what.

Athlon pwns Pentium 4. Plain and simple.

It was probably just the setup you had then, because I have the P4 3.0 and it runs everything very well, just as fast or better then my A64 3200+. Besides, if you look at benchmarks you see the P4 wins in almost everything except for games.
