hey guys/girls

just finished building my computer, and i don't know which processor to go with. I know all the differences between them, i'm just asking for your opinion here.

i'm stuck between a 2.8ghz DUAL CORE or a 3.2 ghz SINGLE CORE.

i can get them for about the same price, give or take $ 20.

so which would YOU go with, i use my computer for minimal gaming, lots of burning and surfing/music/dvds..etc.

2.8 dual core...AMD or Intel? same with 3.2 single core. I would go for the dual core, but it would be better if you said what model and manufacturer it is.

i dont think they make 2.8ghz dual core or single core amds. but i agree with you dual core is the way to go.

if you can spare it in your budget like 70 more bucks, i wuld go with the X2 3800+.

You should choose the cheapest chip for such tasks.

But, if the difference between the two chips is just $20, you should get the dual core (if you've got chipset support).

AMD doesnt make chips that fast.

sorry guys, forgot to mention its Intel Pentium D

so i guess the dual core has the winning vote huh.

even though its 400 mhz difference? the dual core is still faster?

yes it still will be faster cause it has 2 cores running at 2.8 ghz.

many people are saying that i have to make sure the motherboard would support it. it said on the specs that it does. but i want to make sure i get the full potential with my board.

i have the Asus P5ND2-SLI NVIDIA Socket 775 ATX Motherboard, any1 else have this motherboard that is running it with a Pentium D?

they do make a chip that fast, but its single core. dual core they only go to 2.6ghz
about the first part of the quote, i agree get the dual core.
then again the extra 400mhz would be nice especially if its got hyperthreading i duno much about intel though... i understand what hyperthreading does at lleast lol.

Are you talking about the Pentium D 820 or the Pentium D 920? I think it's worth the extra to get the lower temperatures of the D 920

theres one bus speed - 2.8ghz. two cores to carry out commands, so therefore depending on what he's doing the 3.2ghz proc might be better.
personally i prefer dual core though.
im waiting for my next build though, gonna be a close match between Intel and AMD... CANT WAIT! :)

i'm going to do minimal gaming...counter strike and some doom, mostly first person shooter.

a lot of multitasking/music/video encoding stuff like that.

so i guess my best bet is the dual core.
