confusing usb hard drive problem

i have this external usb hard drive (http://www.amazon.com/Western-Digital-Passport-Essential-WDME2500TN/dp/B0012GK3MQ) i got it for almost 2 years now ,so now suddenly it when i tried to plug it in windows started the installation wizard on an usb that i just used yesterday, but here is the confusing part i have checked several internet sites that says that maybe the pendrive is burned down or some thing but my computer DOES detect the usb Hard Drive(i heard the sound that indicates that there has been a usb device connected) but i cant access to it can some one help me? please i NEED the information inse it thnaks
 
You might want to actually remove the hard drive from the case and plug it directly into your system and see if it works. The usb part of the case may be damaged.
 
Go to Start>right click "my computer">click Manage>click "Disk Management" on the left navigation panel

Does it show your drive initialized? if so, try to change the drive letter to something new, make it "Y" drive if your heart desires. Click apply or Ok and see if it shows up under Hard Drives or Removable storage under my computer.
