hey guys

I Just bought a 32" Samsung Series 5 Full HD TV for my computer room.

Now, we decided it would be pretty awesome to conect it to the PC, so we can watch movies on the big screen (and play a few games)

now i went out and bought a cheapish HDMI cable ($20). I dont need the best picture, just something i can live with (and i can definatly live with the picture that comes out of it now)

now, the TV has 2 types of HDMI inputs. HDMI/DVI and HDMI (numbered)

i plugged it into the normal HDMI plug (number 2, as im assuming the HDMI/DVI is for when you use a DVI cable with HDMI convertor)

now, the problem is, there is no sound.

I tried putting a 3.5mm jack to AV audio plug in, with no luck.

i have tried changing default devices, again, no luck.

what am i missing here?

I read something about a header on the GFX card has to be connected to the Mobo, but i dont have a cable that does that... and i need more details if this is the case

the GFX card is a 9800GT.

Picture works perfect, its just sound that is the issue.

Thanks for the help

i'm not sure if that gfx card has sound output but here is how i connect my tv to my pc.

I use a 3.5 mm jack, the problem is is that when you plug it in it blocks the sounds because its like when you plug headphones in and the tv speaker doesnt play.

my tv is connected to a stereo which basically acts like an amp, it is connected using the l/r cables from the back of the tv to the stereo and then when i plug in the 3.5mm cable from my pc to the tv i turn on the speakers on my stereo and then i get sound on the speakers connected to my stereo even tho nothing comes out of the tv speaker.

I'm going on memory here as it has been a while since i used it and havent got the setup handy to look at however the only other possible option i used was the 3.5mm from the pc the the stereo, not the TV, but i'm pretty sure it is what i said above.

The stereo will need to be on aux mode, or something like that, btw

Go into BIOS and enable the On-board sound.

i dont think that is the problem the problem is allowing sound output via tv speakers which will not work via hdmi unless the gpu has onboard sound or a way to connect it up, I believe the op has sound but when it is connected to the tv it does not come out and as mentioned a 3.5 mm jack into the tv will just block the sound.

Oh I thought he wasn't even getting sound without HDMI, sorry about that. Alright so you probably don't have HDMI set as your default audio device.

- Go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Manage Audio Devices > right click Digital Audio HDMI > select Set as Default Device.

- Turn off your TV, restart your laptop, and turn your TV back once rebooted.

You should have audio now.
