Connecting a Laptop to a TV

I am new to the world of laptops so could you help me with this. I would like to hook up my laptop to my TV using an S-Video cable. Do I need any software or can I plug and play?

No software is needed beyond your video drivers. Go to the advanced display proporties and there should be an option within there for TV-Out. Just don't expect very good quality

It depends, some high end graphics cards now have HDTV out and the quality is much better than the normal ones.
