Connecting a Switch to a Router.

Hi Guys

I have recently bought a new 24 port switch to add to my network.
When I connect the new switch into my rourer via a standerd cat5e cable and I plug my computers into the switch all of the computers say that they have limited or no conectivity.

Do I need to use a crossover cable? would that be the solution to my problem?

Thanks heaps

Most modern equipment will recognize that you used a crossover instead of a straight through (or vice versa), and automatically switch the pairs so that it works properly.

On your router, do you have DHCP enabled, and/or are your clients connected to the switch setup with a static IP?

No all my computers are set to automaticly acquire a ip when connecting to a network.

Sounds like you either need to set your computers to static addressing or configure a DHCP server.
