Im having some bother connecting my Laptop to my TV. I have a VGA connection on both tv and computer and tried a straight link up and this didnt work. So i got myself a PC to TV converter which came with more cables.

On the converter box i have the below linked up:

video out(yellow ended cable) linked to tvs yellow hole (AV3)

VGA out linked to TVs VGA connection

VGA in linked to Laptops VGA connection

The converter is powered with USB via laptop

I am just wondering what i am doing wrong! All i get when i tune into AV3 are a series of thick coloured bars (white, yellow, cyan, green, pink, red, blue and black)

Im probably doing something stupid but can anyone help :(

Your laptop have a S-Video out?? Its a round yellow socket, about the same size as a mouse or keyboard socket. That is probably the easiest, and cheapest, way.

With your current problem, are both your TV and laptop set to PAL or NTSC? Is the TV designed to take in a signal from a computer, or is the VGA for another device? Is the output from your laptop a higher resolution that the TV can handle?

Hope that helps, Doug.

What do you mean the VGA to VGA didn't work? That is usually how tv's hook up, besides HDMI. Not trying to sound mean, just curious as to what happens.
As far as the resolution goes, depends on how high the tv goes. If your laptop supports say, 1280 x 1024, and your tv only supports 1280 x 720
you will need to adjust it with the laptop.

Not to sound mean or anything, but did you change your video settings to output through the VGA port? It seems obvious, but I can't count how many times I've made a silly mistake while looking high and low through everything else for a solution.

Yeah... when you hook up the VGA port, it doesn't just automatically start outputting video, you have to configure it first.
